Be part of Montlure’s HOMECOMING!

Since being displaced due to the Wallow Fire in 2011, Montlure is making preparations to bring campers home to Greer, AZ for Summer 2024!

After years of wandering, our journey reunites us with the place we’ve called home for nearly a century. Our homecoming is more than just a return; it’s a celebration of our enduring spirit and the beauty that has risen from the ashes, a testament to our shared journey of growth, renewal, and the unwavering dedication that binds our camp community together. As we return to the place where the heart of our camp lies, we bring with us the history, memories, and legacy of the past, a focus and commitment to our campers of the present, and the steadfast hope of a promising camp future for years to come. Through challenges and adversity, we have emerged with even greater determination and clarity of our mission. Join us in the homecoming celebration of our remarkable journey of resilience and renewal of Montlure Camp, where we are a testament to the promise that God gives beauty for ashes.

Nestled within the Apache-Sitegraves National Forest, our camp site sits at nearly 8,500 feet in elevation in the White Mountains, just off the East Fork Little Colorado River, giving us cool weather and beautiful Aspen trees in the midst of a beautifully recovering pine forest. Greer is a little piece of heaven, situated away from the busyness and lights of the city where a blanket of stars cover the night sky.

Campers sleep on bunk beds in cabins, with a nearby shower house for boys and girls. We have a commercially equipped kitchen and beautiful lodge to enjoy the most amazing meals overlooking an expansive meadow. From playing wild recreation games in the field and forest, to gaga ball, 9-square in the air, basketball, or incredible hikes… there are plenty of opportunities for campers to disconnect and reconnect with their peers and with nature.

For more on our progress to return to Greer, please see montlure.org/greer, follow us on social media @montlurecamp, or contact camp@montlure.org.

Purpose

We believe in the importance of camp for a chance to detach from the stress and anxiety of every day life within space set apart, and surrounded by the beauty of creation. Montlure provides a safe place for children and youth to connect with one another, connect with counselors and staff, and connect with, explore and strenghten their faith. We believe every camper and staff should feel the radical love of God and be accepted for who we have been individually created to be.

Strength

The strength of Montlure Camp is the people. Montlure’s Overnight Camp teams are comprised of young adults who are selected for their Christian commitment, work ethic, and love of children. They are trained to lead Bible studies and small groups, wild and crazy recreation, and camp related activities. We are a relational ministry with an emphasis to offer quality Christian role models for young people as they process their faith journeys while building an authentic community of campers.

Uniqueness

Amidst our displacement caused by the Wallow Fire, we have persevered and continued to build bonds with this generation of campers. Montlure isn’t defined by a physical location, but rather, it thrives as a collective of past, present, and future campers united by the enduring bonds of love, acceptance, and the sheer joy our community has to offer. While we are in great anticipation of returning to our beloved home, we carry with us the invaluable lessons we’ve gleaned, understanding that our impact transcends the boundaries of our beautiful site.

We know you may have a lot of questions about what camp is like. See our FAQ to learn more. If we have missed something, please contact us for any additonal questions (camp@montlure.org)!

Although this may not be an exhaustive list, here is a suggested packing list for Overnight Campers. A final list will also be sent out prior to camp in the welcome packet.

Aample schedule for what camp life looks like. Other than on our “all camp sleep in” day, Wake Up Call is 7:30am and lights out for older campers is 11pm, 10pm for our Juniors Campers.

Everything we do at camp is rooted in our 5 key Sabbath practices: Hospitality, Prayer, Retreat, Service, and Storytelling. However, our particular curriculum changes yearly.
