We are incredibly grateful for the hundreds of firefighters and emergency personnel who worked tirelessly to contain the Greer Fire and protect the surrounding communities.
We’re thrilled to share that we have received official clearance from the U.S. Forest Service—it is safe to return to our site, and none of our camps need to be canceled!
The past week has been a whirlwind as we closely monitored the fire’s progress and its potential impact on this summer. Thank you for your patience, prayers, and understanding throughout this time. The Montlure Council met multiple times over the past week to review contingency plans and evaluate key safety benchmarks to ensure a safe return to camp. Your support has meant the world to us. Please know: the safety of our campers and staff will always be our highest priority.
As of today, the fire is 88% contained, the evacuation order has been lifted, power has been restored, and roads into Greer are open.
Because of the fire-related delays, we are a bit behind in on-site preparations. If you’re available, we’d love your help at our Service Camp this weekend—we have plenty of work (and cleaning!) to do, and many hands make light work. (montlure.org/greer)
We’re now just 11 days away from welcoming our summer staff for training, and the excitement is building! We can’t wait for a season full of joy, growth, and community.
Thank you again for walking with us through this uncertain time. Your encouragement, flexibility, and faith remind us just how strong and connected the Montlure family truly is.

The fire is 55% contained and fire managers are expecting containment to increase today. Yesterday, another round of strong winds tested the fire’s containment, but all control lines remained secure thanks to the extensive efforts of firefighters working along the perimeter. Overnight, crews continued patrolling the fire lines and extinguishing visible heat sources to prevent any flare-ups.
The evacuation orders were lifted yesterday evening for all residents. Currently, parts of the forest are still closed.
The Montlure Council will be meeting tomorrow evening to discuss the potential impacts to summer camp program.

All lines held overnight after high winds continued to test fire perimeter. Crews were able to complete the remaining portions of the firing operation yesterday morning that connected to the main fire on the south/southwestern edge. As a result of substantial work securing heat near the edge of the line, fire managers were able to add some containment to the fire this morning. Today, all available resources are actively working to secure the fire perimeter and cool hot spots to prevent the spread of the fire by wind-driven embers. Fire personnel are preparing for another Red Flag Warning issued over the fire today with critical fire weather conditions and strong winds expected – including gusts up to 40 mph.
Current containment: 38%

A Red Flag Warning remains in effect today, with winds expected to exceed 40 mph. These conditions will continue to challenge the strength of the fire lines, but all crews and resources remain actively engaged in securing the fire’s edge.
Power in Greer is still out, with the goal of re-energizing the area and lifting the evacuation order as soon as it is safe to do so. Hotspots must be addressed and control lines confirmed before that can happen.

Control lines near Greer—and near camp—held overnight. Over the past couple of days, successful air operations have helped slow the fire’s spread, which is currently estimated at approximately 16,000 acres.
A Red Flag Warning is in effect today, with strong winds expected through tomorrow. These conditions will put the current containment lines to the test.
Roads, access points, and the surrounding forest remain closed at this time. We remain in direct communication with the Forest Service as we explore options for the summer and hope to have more concrete information to share in the coming days.
We continue to be in prayer for all those impacted, and we’re grateful for the crew who are working tirelessly in this effort to protect the surrounding areas.

Over 500 personnel are now on the scene as the fire has reached over 12,000 acres. While the fire continues to spread to the east and northeast, containment lines in Greer—including those closest to camp—are holding steady. Additional air support is expected today, and dry, windy conditions are forecast to continue.
We remain in ongoing conversation with the Forest Service about our site and any potential impacts to this summer’s camp season. Please know we are actively gathering information and will share updates as soon as we have more definitive answers.
We invite you to continue in prayer with us—for our 2025 summer camp season, for those impacted by the fire, and for all the personnel responding so faithfully to this unfolding situation.

Firefighters made progress yesterday and overnight constructing containment lines in and around Greer. The heel of the fire—the portion closest to camp—continues to hold and remains secure. The fire remains at 7,052 acres with more than 400 personnel assigned. Today, operations will take advantage of the potential decrease in winds and utilize heavy aircraft along with helicopters. The aircraft will be used to support the areas of the fire along the ridge top where it’s inaccessible to ground crews.
The Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest has issued a closure order for National Forest lands, and evacuation orders for the area are still in effect.
The Montlure Council continues to monitor the situation closely and is meeting regularly to discuss what the coming weeks may look like as we approach the start of the summer camp season. If any changes need to be made, registered families will be notified first. We will also continue to post updates here and on our social media platforms.
